Virgin Chardonnay 2005

Very cool fermentation with aromatic yeasts has maximised the expression of stonefruit and blossom aromas of this Chardonnay. The palate is rich and mouth filling, offering flavours of ripe nectarine and grapefruit. These flavours linger in the mouth along with a hint of honey sweetness. A small portion of malolactic fermentation adds a layer of richness and length to this wine. With such ripe, vibrant stonefruit flavours, this wine will partner well with many dishes, especially those including fish, sweet seasonal vegetables, and chicken and fresh herb pasta dishes. Or simply enjoy this wine for its own wonderful flavours!

This wine is one of our best sellers, a lovely, light, fruit driven, uncomplicated example of a Chardonnay. It has lovely palate weight with unobtrusive acid and great balance. The blending from 4 different components has maximized fruit expression and palate opulence, this wine offers both freshness, complexity and a soft velvety texture. Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2005

What a beautiful example of a chardonnay this is. This wine featured in Julys Cuisine, it received 3.5 stars alongside some iconic wines such as the Te Awa Chardonnay. It was one of New Zealands top 30 Chardonnays and there was also mention of the high quality of Chardonnay fruit that had come out of Gisborne. We were the only Gisborne winery to get a wine in the top 30 and as 2004 was our first vintage, we think this is a fantastic sign of the promising results to come! The 2004 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay shows lovely stone fruit, floral aromas and a hint of oak on the nose, while the palate exhibits full pineapple, peach and ripe citrus characters. The palate has fabulous weight and texture, while the finish is long and lingering. A balanced wine, which offers a fantastic combination of fruit, oak and palate texture.

Wild Rose 2008

The KEW Ros is our most popular wine. Always popular in summer and a wonderfully versatile wine Ros has quickly become a N.Z. favourite and this wee gem is certainly no different. The delicate fragrance of strawberries and cherry blossom greet the senses before this wine expresses itself on the palate. The flavours of pale pink cherry and hints of cream lead into an elegantly structured wine, with a fresh lingering finish. The partial use of wild yeasts for fermentation adds complexity and texture to this wine, giving depth to the delicate flavours and aromas that have been carefully extracted using cool temperatures. This wine will complement dishes such as seared tuna, fresh summer salads, and delicately flavoured cheeses.

Estate Merlot 2004

This wine has now had a chance to settle down after bottling and it is a lovely example of a ripe East Coast Merlot. Lovely dark fruit is complement by great structure, and this wine will only get better in the next 2 -3 years.
The Estate Merlot shows vanilla notes and dark red plum aromas. These characters intensify on the palate, which is smooth and rich, with a long warm finish. This is an excellent partner for pasta dishes, lamb and game.

Malbec 2004

Malbec is a fascinating variety it has the most wonderfully aromatic nose, lovely deep color and a strong tannin backbone. Blended with Merlot for a bit of palate fatness, this is a red wine not to be ignored. This wine shows lovely white pepper notes and blackcurrant aromas, while the palate offers cinnamon spice and rich dark fruit. The finish is warm and lengthy with hints of coffee and fruitcake. Malbec is something a little different from Merlot and will compliment more spicy red meat dishes.

Top Flat Reserve Merlot 2004

2004 was a superior vintage for the ripening of red grape varieties (esp. Merlot) in Gisborne. The long hot summer days gave us perfect conditions to produce a high caliber red wine. Selected parcels of fruit from our elevated peninsula Top Flat vineyard were picked and combined to give us the best expression of the vineyard. Showing breathtaking complexity, tannic structure, texture and intensity on the palate, this wine is drinking nicely now and will improve and become more complex over the next five years. This wine is exceptionally silky on the palate, showing intense aromas and flavors of mixed spice, rich dark plums and vanilla. These flavors linger in the mouth, tempting the taste buds for more.
